Cordless telephones

Today the cordless telephone market has effectively standardized around Digital Enhanced Cordless Telephone (DECT) technology. A mature standard for medium-range radio, DECT is widespread across Europe, Latin America, Asia, Korea, and Russia. A derivative standard called DECT 6.0 was recently launched in the USA and is now the fastest growing cordless phone segment in North America.

To develop digital cordless telephones and other cordless applications, we offer our customers ICs and software source code that cover virtually all digital cordless frequencies and standards in the world.

Our CMOS-based platform helps telephone manufacturers offer a complete portfolio of cordless phones. Benefits of our on-chip architecture include flexibility and multi-functional capability. It can be easily updated to meet the latest market requirements and protocol standards.

Benefits of DECT
With millions of phones on the market, DECT still has big benefits over other technologies:
• Brilliant voice and sound quality
• Security from eavesdropping
• Simultaneous use of multiple phones
• Interoperability with base stations from various vendors (GAP - Europe)
• Interference-free frequency band
• Instant messaging
• VoIP ready
• Push-to-talk walkie-talkie function

DECT value
Interoperability and a dedicated voice band really help to grow the overall market by increasing the value of DECT phones to households and businesses. Given the long standby and talk times, as well as the call quality benefits noted earlier, it is clear why cordless phones are still in wide use despite the universal presence of mobile phones.
