In June 2005, SiTel Semiconductor BV was born after a successful management buy-out backed by HgCapital, a European mid-market private equity investor, together with Dutch management and employees.
SiTel was the former Dutch business unit of National Semiconductor Corporation, involved in the design and sale of high-quality chips for cordless phones and other devices. The history of the company goes back to the late 1980s, when Sierra Semiconductor Corporation (SSC, currently PMC-Sierra Inc.) decided to set up its European headquarters in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Back then, Sierra was one of the major representatives of modem, graphics and Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs).
In 1994, SiTel Sierra BV was founded as a spin-off company and quickly gained a firm position in the fast-growing European IC market for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telephone (DECT), Private Mobile Radio (PMR) and small Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX). In January 1996, National Semiconductor Corporation came into the picture and acquired SiTel Sierra BV. With SiTel as a subsidiary, National was able to fulfill a number of critical mixed-signal baseband technologies essential for the company's new focus on the wireless world.
Today, SiTel Semiconductor BV develops leading-edge products that include CMOS RF transceiver and baseband processor ICs, and voice/data modules with embedded software. Our products target a growing range of applications, including cordless phones, conference phones, Enterprise VoIP solutions, PABX products, headsets, set-top boxes, home entertainment systems and cordless game pads.
